Zoo Med's Cricket Boost Hydrating Jelly Cup prevents crickets drowning in water. Keeps Feeder insects hydrated, plus added calcium in a nutritious carrot base.

Crickets are one of the best feeder insect choices for your pet reptile: They’re high in protein, low in fat, and conveniently available at nearly every pet store! However, they’re low in calcium and can be hard to keep alive at home.

Feeding crickets a high-calcium, dry diet for 1-3 days (”gut-loading”) is the gold standard for improving their calcium content to at least a 1:1 calcium-to-phosphorus ratio (Ca:P). However, crickets need to stay hydrated to survive this gut-loading process. Reptile nutritionists advise against offering fresh fruit, vegetables, or the typical fruit-based jelly cups because they are more appealing than a high-calcium gut-load diet and can further dilute the insect’s nutritional value. After countless tests, trials, and formulas, we developed a calcium-fortified hydrating jelly that complements gut-loading, rather than detracting from it!

Cricket Boost is a high-moisture, calcium-fortified jelly that was designed to complement a dry gut-load diet. Due to its high calcium content (1% AF, 8% DM), it can help improve the Ca:P ratio of feeder insects on its own; however, a high-moisture diet has its limits and cannot offer the same potency of other trace nutrients in a concentrated dry gut-load diet.
